LEGACY Letters – Your LEGACY – why BIG and BOLD is BETTER
My wife and I recently went through a mastermind group where we covered topics on thinking BIG. The phrase go BIG or go home came up during the discussions. I’m sure many of your have heard this expression and even used it yourself.
We’ve already talked about how we need to be bold with who we are, what we believe, why we believe what we believe and why we act the way we act. So what’s next?
What would happen if we combine going BIG with being BOLD? When I think about it I get chills. The possibilities, the potential are bond boggling.
So how can we do this?
First we each need to acknowledge what it is we are all about.
I’m sure many of you have taken personality assessments ( DISC or Myers Briggs), values assessments and maybe even strengths assessments ( Strengthsfinder 2.0 or Stand Out). But have you ever put them all together and then boiled them down to a handful of key values, attributes, strengths that really define who you are and who you want to be?
Have you ever written your own personal mission statement? It’s an interesting exercise and one I found to be profoundly worthwhile and necessary ( The Path and Living Forward are two books I would recommend ).
To put all this together into something meaningful is a process and may take some time. But when I took these assessments, the life goals, bucket lists, dreams and visions and added scripture to them I finally began to understand who God made me to be and what He created me to do. It’s when peace and joy began to increase exponentially and a picture of my true calling came into focus.
This is the first step to being BIG and BOLD. Until I really understood what I was meant to be and to do could I even remotely think about going BIG. You can’t go BIG until you know where you want to go and why! Then once you really understand where you are going and you decide to go BIG, now you will find more and more ways to be BOLD about it. In fact, the paths, opportunities and assistance you need will seem to start showing up. As long as you are willing to take the next step first, the ones after that seem to find you. Just like God tells us in scripture, He will knock at the door but you have to open the door – in the same way you must take the first step!
Wherever you are on this path, you never stop learning more each day! It’s like a quote I got from my dad a while back, “you know more by noon than you did when you woke up”.
So do some assessments, fill out some questionnaires, ask others you trust for their opinions. I had nothing to lose and neither do you. We can always learn more about ourselves. Then periodically review your assessments and I think you’ll find, like I have, you’ll continue to gain new insights and perspective each time. Just like reading the same verses in the Bible over and over and over, you get a different take on them each time. Pretty cool how that works!
Every client I have coached I have been able to point to some of these resources and they have benefitted. We can never learn enough about ourselves, or better yet, what we are capable of becoming and doing.
So here’s to going BIG and BOLD in 2018 and learning something new about ourselves that propels us to get onto and stay on the BIG and BOLD ride!!
Be well and stay safe.
